Helen DeBaker-Vorce to kickoff the UP State Fair
ESCANABA, Mich – After years of making her name known in country music, singer and songwriter Helen DeBaker-Vorce returns to her hometown of Escanaba to kickoff the grandstand entertainment at the UP State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m.
DeBaker-Vorce’s journey of gaining success on the stage embodies the hardworking Yooper-spirit she came to know growing up in the Upper Peninsula. At her start, DeBaker-Vorce could have been found strumming her guitar and singing original country melodies with many of the local bands throughout Michigan and eventually earning her an induction into the “Michigan Country Hall of Fame.”
Vorce spent much of her time traveling and performing with the professional show band “Center Stage,” opening for country stars Wade Hayes, David Frizzel, Jim Glaser, Michael Twitty, and Tommy Cash. Throughout her years of entertaining, the U.P. sensation has performed at large events and numerous halls, including the Grand Ole Opry.
Her single “Away From Home Soldier’s” from her CD named “My Music” caught the nation’s attention and was voted Top Pick on Military radio. She performed the same single on the Shot Gun Red Variety Show, airing on the tv screens in 44 million homes in 2012. “My Music” has since been produced by several production companies and can be streamed on popular music sites such as Spotify, Amazon, and iTunes.
DeBaker-Vorce’s meaningful lyrics and country tunes will surely leave guests with a true country performance they will never forget. Fairgoers can enjoy DeBaker live at the U.P. State Fair free with the cost of general fair admission. Gates will open one hour before the show.
